Access & Equity Policy
The services of 313 are made available to all clients (and potential clients) regardless of race, gender, religion, age, marital status, physical or intellectual impairment, or sexual orientation.
313 staff and students are bound by the Anti Discrimination Act 1977, the Disability Services Act 1986 and the Affirmative Action Act 1986.
313 will endeavour to assist any student with special needs and provide the appropriate support mechanisms where required. To enable 313 to do this, please notify your Trainer or the Student Enrolment and Support Officer so appropriate
arrangements can be made.
Learning and Assessment Process
313 is committed to their aim of providing our region with access to quality specialised and/or accredited training.
All Trainers employed by 313 possess their industry standard qualification to deliver training of VETAB nationally accredited courses, however, during training and/or assessment 313 may use an industry expert combined with the skills of a trained and qualified assessor in order to deliver and assess qualifications.
Participation:
It is important that students have maximum attendance in the course to gain full competency. In the case of absence due to sickness a doctor’s certificate will need to be provided. Any absences that are known of before hand are to be communicated to your Trainer or the Student Enrolment and Support Officer.
During your course you may be required to attend field trips or activities that are held in a different location to your normal training location at 313. For any field trips that may be organised, you will be notified of the method of travel prior to the field trip and will be required to complete an authority to travel form
Assessment:
All accredited courses delivered by 313 are assessed under the Competency Based Training system (CBT). CBT involves students to be assessed on their ability to perform each outcome/competency.
Assessment will be conducted at a pre-arranged time with your Trainer/Assessor. Your Trainer/Assessor will assess your level of competency in relation to the standards in the training package or course curriculum.
Assessment/s will be deemed either Competent (C) or Not Yet Competent (NYC).
In the event that you are deemed NYC, you can ask the Assessor for feedback and arrange for further training if required. If no further training is required another suitable assessment time should be arranged. Three (3) assessment attempts will be allowed.
In the case that after completion of the overall assessment process you are assessed as NYC and feel that you have the right to appeal the result, students may report their concerns through the appeal procedure.
Enrolment Process
For all courses an enrolment form is to be completed and all fees must be paid
five (5) working days prior to the start date.
A letter of confirmation will be sent to all enrolled students outlining relevant course details (eg: start date, hours, trainer etc) and an induction/orientation will
be conducted on the first day of course commencement.
Course start dates are subject to change, however, all enrolled students will be notified.
Where pre requisites or specific language, literacy and numeracy skills are required for entry into a course, an assessment may need to be undertaken. This initial assessment is designed to be a non-threatening experience and you will be notified if this is a requirement and the appropriate arrangements will be made for assessment.
Refund Policy
Refunds will be made in the following circumstances:
- Students who have overpaid the course fee
- 313 cancels the course
- Where the students application for enrolment is refused, 313 agrees to refund all course fees within 30 days (without deduction)
- Refund is requested 5 days or more before course commencement (less administration fee of 10%)
- The student is unable to commence or continue study due to death or illness, after consultation with 313 CEO and a determination made that exceptional circumstances apply (partial refund)
- 313 cannot be responsible for changes in student circumstances.
Access to Records/Information
On commencement of a course you will be required to complete an Accredited Training Registration form. This form has been developed for use Australia wide which covers the essential enrolment questions for AVETMISS compliance.
Any personal details you provide to 313 will be dealt with in privacy and nobody but you and the staff of 313 have access to your personal information. However, if you are undertaking a course paid for by someone else, that person will also have access to your information.
It is important to keep your contact details up to date so that correspondence can be sent to you in relation to your study. If at any time your contact details change, please notify the Student Enrolment and Support Officer.
In accordance with the Privacy Act 1988, 313 will seek your permission to release any information to any body else about your Training and Assessment.
Feedback and Suggestions
313 values the feedback from students that come to our training centre and encourages them to contribute their feedback and suggestions, this will assist in maintaining a quality service.
Over the duration of your course you will be asked to complete evaluation forms. These are a valuable piece of research for 313 and assist to develop courses and programs and maintain facilities that are valuable to all our clients.
Please take the time to complete these evaluations so that 313 can continue to provide our region with access to quality specialised and/or accredited training.
Your feedback and suggestions are important and are not restricted only to the formal evaluation process.
Issuing of Qualifications
On completion of a course the following will be issued:
- A Certificate will be issued on full completion of a qualification, stating the Qualification you have achieved and the units that you have successfully completed
- A Statement of Attainment will be issued on partial completion of a qualification, stating the Qualification you partially achieved and the units that you have successfully completed
- A Certificate of Completion will be issued on completion of a non-accredited course, stating the course that you participated in
313 issues Certificates and Transcripts on completion of all courses, however, if you wish to obtain a transcript for an accredited course prior to completion, please notify the Student Enrolment and Support Officer.
If you misplace your Certificate or Transcript and require 313 to re-issue it, you will be required to complete a Renewal of Lost Certificates and Transcripts Application form. A fee of $35.00 applies for the renewal of lost certificates and transcripts.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC)
Under the AQTF standards 313 is to recognise any opportunity for students to demonstrate prior learning or current competency from previous skills gained or previous training and life experiences.
At commencement of each course you will be given the opportunity to apply for RPL or RCC and will be required to provide evidence of your previous experience or demonstrate your current skills and ability.
Some simple questions you may as yourself are:
- Have I taken part in or completed similar training?
- Have I worked in the industry for a period in excess of five years?
- Do I have evidence of the training or work experience I have completed?
If you would like to apply for RPL or RCC you should notify your Trainer or the Student Enrolment and Support Officer who will be able to initiate the RPL or RCC process.
Mutual Recognition – Credit Transfer (CT)
313 recognise the AQF Qualifications and Statements of Attainments issued by any other RTO in Australia.
If you would like to apply for CT during your course you should notify your Trainer and provide a copy of your AQF Qualification or Statement of Attainment previously achieved.
Occupational Health & Safety and Evacuation Procedure
313 aims to protect its staff, students, visitors and others at our training centre from work-caused injury and ill health and ensures that they comply with all relevant safety policies, procedures and legislation.
Staff will take the responsibility of the health and safety of the people in their care and will actively take steps to identify hazards, which could cause harm to the people in their care and take prompt action to either remove or control, or report the hazard to the OHS representatives within the Organisation.
All others are to take the responsibility of their own health and safety where possible and follow the policies, procedures and instructions of the staff of 313 and actively take steps to identify hazards, and take prompt action to either remove or control (where appropriate), or report the hazard to the OHS representatives within the Organisation.
In the event of an incident or accident it is the responsibility of the parties involved to seek help where required and in all cases report the incident or accident to the OHS representatives so that the matter can be investigated or resolved.
All training rooms/studios/labs/workshops within the 313 training centre have an evacuation procedure and a list of first aid officers clearly displayed.
In the event of an evacuation, staff will take the responsibility to evacuate all students as per the evacuation procedure or via the safest possible route to the muster point in the case that the evacuation procedure is unsafe at the time.
Complaints, Grievances and Appeals
313 encourage all students to report any complaints or grievances. This includes appeals in relation to assessment outcomes.
313 believes achieving a resolution is paramount with all complaints, grievances and appeals and any issue reported will be taken seriously and dealt with in privacy.
To report a complaint, grievance or to appeal an assessment outcome 313 asks all students to take the following order of actions for a resolution:
1. Discuss the matter with your Trainer/Assessor
2. Discuss the matter with the Student Enrolment and Support Officer
3. Discuss the matter with the 313 Manager
4. Discuss the matter with the CEO
5. Seek an external support group for assistance in resolving the matter
Discrimination, Bullying and Harassment
313 is committed to providing an environment for work and training that is free from discrimination, bullying and harassment of any kind and abides by the legislation that governs these.
313 staff and students are bound by the Anti Discrimination Act 1977 and the Sexual Harassment Act 1984.
Any form of discrimination, bullying and harassment will not be tolerated and grievance procedures are in place to deal with any matter involving these cases.
Staff and students are to report any of the above cases immediately. Any grievance that is received will be taken seriously and dealt with in privacy.
Drugs and Alcohol Policy
313 will not tolerate the use of illegal drugs or alcohol by any person at our Training Centre. Any person who is caught using or suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be asked to leave.
Smoking Policy
As an RTO, 313 has a duty of care to provide a safe working environment and to protect the health of all staff, students, visitors and others from the ill effects of cigarette smoke. 313 has a no smoking policy. Any person who does not abide by this policy is in breach of the OHS Act 2000 and if necessary the appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.
